Green Smoothie Bowl Goodness

IMG_8583 When it comes to the science of smoothie bowls, I believe the toppings are just as important as the base ingredients. You see; they both need to coexist in perfect “bowl harmony”. The combination has to blend & taste good, and really bring out the flavors of each of the parts. For example, I can’t have chocolate with fruits like kiwi or peaches. It just doesn’t taste as good as chocolate with berries per se. So do a quick map out of what would blend in nicely together. Don’t overthink it, just go with your palate preferences. To be fully honest, I never know the night before what I’ll have for breakfast the very next morning. It’s always a spur of the moment decision. And it always depends on two things: what I woke up craving and what I have in my fridge at the moment.

This bowl is so incredibly good and healthy for you and best of all, tastes great. The star of it all is the honeycrisp apple. If you’ve never tried a honeycrisp apple, all I can say is- you’re missing out! The word “honey” embedded in the name should be a good enough indicator. Try it. No apple will ever taste the same afterwards. For the Base:

  • 1 frozen banana cut into chunks
  • 1 cup of tightly packed baby spinach OR curly kale
  • 1 Honeycrisp apple sliced (or any other varieties)
  • 2 kiwis sliced
  • 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk *Carrageenan Free
  • 1 tablespoon of agave or raw honey (Optional)

Blend all the ingredients and pour into a bowl. Top with dried goji berries, chia seeds, more apple slices and toasted coconut slices. You could also have topped it with kiwi, banana etc. Other seeds that make great toppings are flax seeds, or hemp hearts (which I use in a lot of my smoothies). Enjoy!!

*Carrageenan has been linked to cancer by some preliminary studies. I avoid it as a precautionary measure.
