Let’s face it; nobody likes to leave the house on an empty stomach. If you’re a busy mom, your morning routine is likely as exhausting as your evening one. The evening is spent doing a myriad of everything prep- (AKA trying to smooth-out launch time in the morning). Which kinda (always) inevitably looks like the Amazing Race. In my case, getting two kiddos up, dressed, primped, fed & brushed before loading up a million and one bags into your car or stroller.
I put my best poker face forward & while I try (hard) not to laugh- or cry at my threenager’s witty responses, I don’t always succeed. But… I put my big sunglasses on (to mask any sign of tired eyes) and my big girl pants on- and try to dash out the door every single day with as minimum collateral damage as possible. Most mornings, that involves returning to the house less than 2 minutes later because I forgot said stroller. Or said bags. Thankfully, never said kids. Now, raise your hand if we live in the same parallel universe?!
Insert deliciously easy overnight oats into the morning madness equation. It’s literally the equivalent of waking up to a ready-made part of breakfast. ALL that’s required is 5 mins or less of prep time the night before. You’re basically soaking large flake Quaker Oats in your favorite nut milk or yogurt (or both) and adding YOUR favorite fruit toppings & plant-protein. Talk about customizing! And convenience.
I often clean-out-my fridge with whatever fruit I have available that is soon to be overly ripe. Throw it all in. Wake up and grab that cute little mason jar and walk out the door feeling a bit more zen & prepared to tackle the day. Hey, you can even give the kiddos their own jar at the breakfast table. Easy peasy. And totally delish. Simplify your mornings.
p.s. whatever little (or lots) of time you spent on prepping breakfast can be spent on yourself. It’s the little things. 😉
