Peaches & Kefir Smoothie!

peaches and kefir smoothie

Every single Thursday afternoon, I pack my trusty stroller, my beloved munchkins and head down to the East Lynn Farmers Market. It’s about a 20-25 minute stroll under the sometimes sweltering summer sun. I’ve got the tan lines to prove it, friends! Last Thursday I came across the most glorious fuzzy peaches. Eating seasonally has been a major goal of mine this year, and the produce I find at the market every week serves as my inspo & compass to give the blog direction; & determine the recipes I share. FYI- this peach smoothie is everyyyything!

A smoothie is only as good for you as the ingredients you put in it. If you’re making yours with hormone-packed cow dairy, refined sugar, and frozen fruit (with added sugar), chances are it may taste great to you and all, but it’s not going to take you very far health-wise. Anyone can make a smoothie, but can you make one that’s packed with ALL the good things and tastes like dessert? Hello, tree-ripened peaches, almond butter, oats, & kefir. Nice to meet you. I hope you stay a while.

What I love about this smoothie is that it contains kefir; (a fermented milk product & one I tolerate without any problems) which is filled with amazing gut bacteria and is a huge immune booster (Flu Season is waiting for us come the Fall, not fun, I know!). It gives the smoothie a dense, creamy & slightly acidic flavor. But when you pair it with the sweetest farmers market Ontario peaches, raw oats for fiber and more creaminess, almond butter for healthy fats, a pinch of cinnamon to regulate blood sugar levels, & some raw buckwheat honey or Manuka honey; magic happens! P.S. My peaches were SO sweet and perfectly ripe, I didn’t even need to use any honey.

This smoothie is nourishing, filling, creamy, tastes of peaches and oats and almost reminds me of liquid peaches and cream oatmeal. Yep, I am the first to admit I was a former addict of processed oats. Ate two small packets every single day and couldn’t understand why I didn’t see any results. Truth is; bought far too many ready-made things. I never made the time to eat better, yet somehow claimed I was eating well. Well, this smoothie tastes even better & without any of the yucky, artificial, processed stuff. It’s the perfect make-ahead breakfast the night before or it can be quickly whipped up in the morning as it literally takes 5 mins to prep.

Hoping you enjoy this as much as I do! More smoothie recipes will be trickling in to the blog this week! Stay tuned, friends! Xx

Peaches and Kefir Smoothie

  • Servings: 1
  • Print

Ingredients

  • 2 fresh peaches (pitted & cut into quarters & I like to leave the skin on for nutrients)
  • 1 cup of plain Kefir (OR 1/2 cup of coconut yogurt + 1/2 cup of almond milk)
  • 1 tablespoon of raw honey, buckwheat honey OR Manuka honey
  • 1/3 cup of dry oats ( I use GF old-fashioned rolled oats)
  • 1 tbsp of almond butter
  • 1/4 tsp of cinnamon (p.s. I love saigon cinnamon)
  • 1 tbsp of collagen powder (completely optional, I add it onto every smoothie and it’s virtually tasteless.)

Instructions

Blend everything on high until smooth. Because this smoothie has dry oats, it may take a little bit longer for them to pulverize. Enjoy!!! So good & good for you! If you make it the night before and leave it in the fridge, it becomes even creamier and denser overnight.
