Crush That Sweet Tooth: Peanut Butter & Jelly Smoothie

PB & J

There was once a girl who lived for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. She thought it was the perfect marriage; creamy, salty peanut butter & sweet, sticky jelly. Not that I know who she is (or anything), whew! But she did like her sandwiches, a lot. Usually more than one at a time. And while peanut butter isn’t bad for you at all, the jelly wasn’t helping. Nor was the bread, particularly the bread. For what nutritional value is there ever to be found in processed, sliced bread made from bleached white flour that has been stripped off everything that’s intrinsically good?

Hey, am not boycotting peanut butter and jelly sandwiches altogether. My kids love them on rye toast, particularly Bavarian Rye. We also enjoy Amaranth & Quinoa bread. But yes, rye seems to be their favorite. I won’t try to change that, either. Am ok with rye. That said, you don’t have to look far to see where I drew inspiration for this smoothie. Completely in love with this one, if I had to pick a top 3- this would definitely make the cut. And no, it has no jelly. But the fresh, creamy blueberry and nut milk blend are the perfect substitute. And yes, you could add peanut or almond butter to it, and it tastes just as good- if not better than the sandwiches that girl I told you about used to eat. An incredibly easy recipe, a delicious and nutrient-dense drink!

Makes 1 Serving- You Will Need:

  • 1 cup of frozen Blueberries
  • 1 cup of Almond Milk
  • 1 tablespoon of Peanut Butter (or Almond Butter)
  • 1 tablespoon of hemp hearts (for protein)
  • 1/3 cup of old fashioned rolled oats (completely optional)

Blend on “High” until desired consistency is obtained. This one doesn’t take long to blend, as there are no frozen bananas in the recipe. Enjoy it!!

    1. It tastes amazing! Almond butter really does something for smoothies. Right now am really into Almond-Hazelnut butter. Almonds with a hint of nutella.. not sure how to describe it. Try the smoothie with it the next time you make it!:)
