Happy Cinco! A Strawberry Margarita Cocktail

strawberry margarita

This was a “Cinco de Mayo” inspired drink, but I should perhaps start by stating there’s no alcohol involved… Sorry! On the upside, this smoothie is nothing short of awesome. You will find yourself entirely consumed by it’s tropical taste and citrusy sweetness. It tastes very similar to a strawberry limeade, but with a creamy, coconut infusion.

The base of this drink is not one of my usual dairy-free milk alternatives, but rather coconut water! I started drinking coconut water roughly two years ago and the benefits are amazing. It helps with water retention, as it’s one of the most powerful diuretics in nature. It hydrates you like nothing else will, with the exception of water. It’s full of potassium and electrolytes, and will go well with smoothies. When I have an event like a wedding or party, I always ensure to drink at least 1 liter of coconut water and that will give my face a dewy glow that cannot be missed. It’s interesting how being well hydrated on the inside can make such a big difference on the outside. If you don’t like coconut water, simply substitute with water and a handful of ice. A dairy free milk alternative will not pair well with this particular smoothie because it has 1 tablespoon of lemon. Taste-wise, you may not enjoy milk with a hint of sourness. Trust me on this! 🙂

Strawberry Margarita Mocktail

  • 1 cup of coconut water (no sugar added)
  • 1 cup of ripe frozen strawberries (they give it better texture when frozen)
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon of coconut manna for good fats (or coconut butter or flaxseed oil)
  • 1 ripe frozen banana, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon of white chia seeds for protein & fiber (you could use black chia seeds, too)

Blend on high until evenly smooth. Tip: if your strawberries and/or bananas are not perfectly ripe, I advise you try adding a tablespoon of raw honey or pure agave syrup. Enjoy!!
